DTC Subscription Retention · Portfolio

I build the systems that turn one purchase into a habit.

Six years building lifecycle and retention programs for DTC subscription brands. Every flow and campaign here was built around a specific conversion problem in the customer journey. The strategy leads with behavioral psychology, education, and conversion architecture, not discounts.

The retention system

Four flows, one continuous customer journey.

These flows are not isolated emails. They are a coordinated lifecycle system that moves a subscriber from first interest, through first purchase, into habit, and back from the edge of churn. Each one solves a single job in that journey.

01

Welcome Flow

Bloomable Natural Products
Progressive Trust Ladder

Bloomable needed to convert first-time subscribers before intent faded, while laying the foundation for long-term retention. Instead of an immediate discount sequence, I built a progressive trust ladder that moves subscribers through four psychological stages. Early emails introduce the ingredient philosophy and reduce purchase anxiety. Later emails use customer proof, founder storytelling, and targeted recommendations to bridge interest and action. Data-collection touchpoints capture preferences that feed the post-purchase, replenishment, and winback campaigns downstream, so the flow doubles as customer intelligence for the rest of the lifecycle.

Brand discoveryProblem awarenessSolution educationPurchase activation

Built as stage one of a broader retention ecosystem: education before conversion, designed to attract higher-intent buyers more likely to repeat.

02

Cart Recovery Flow

Bouche Mouth Tape
Belief Before Discount

High-intent shoppers were leaving before checkout, held back by skepticism about whether mouth taping actually works and by unanswered product questions. This flow removes those barriers before it ever mentions a discount. It opens with objection handling, education, testimonials, and product-specific benefits to rebuild confidence, then introduces social proof and FAQs aimed squarely at first-time-buyer anxiety. The promotional offer comes last, only after belief is established, which tends to attract customers more likely to become repeat purchasers.

Post-Purchase Flow

Bouche Mouth Tape
Habit Before Repurchase

Mouth taping is behavior-dependent, so the real retention gap sits between the first purchase and habit formation. This five-stage flow guides customers through onboarding, first-use education, troubleshooting, habit reinforcement, and replenishment timing. Every email is built to remove friction, answer an objection, and reinforce a progress marker, positioning Bouche as a trusted sleep partner rather than a one-time product.

The full five-stage sequence: cross-sell upsells, shipping confirmation, three usage how-tos (mouth tape, nasal strips, breathe kit), and three habit-timeline emails.

04

Winback Flow

Bouche Mouth Tape
Progressive Reactivation

Many lapsed customers had not rejected the product. They had simply broken the habit or never built it into their nightly routine. The flow re-establishes product relevance and reconnects customers with the outcomes they originally bought for. It leads with customer success stories, sleep education, and product reminders, and introduces incentives only after value has been re-established, which reduces reliance on aggressive discounting.

Bouche Mouth Tape · campaign work

Ten campaigns. One goal: turn a sleep product into a brand people believe in.

Some create belief. Some remove objections. Some build habit. Each was built around a conversion problem and a named strategic framework, then designed to perform without leaning on a discount.
